At Golden Fry, our commitment to the area we are in is deep-rooted and one we are passionate about. We believe a community that operates with neighbourly intent and support is one that grows from strength to strength. As such, we do trade with local businesses to the value of over R14 million annually. This ensures that the local economy and employment flourish while also allowing businesses close to our home to thrive before we send the business elsewhere.
Supporting local businesses has far-reaching benefits for the community and economy. Our passion comes from the following information we use as guidelines to choosing our suppliers and customers in trade:
1. Job Creation: Local businesses are significant employers within their communities. In South Africa, small and medium-sized enterprises account for over 60% of employment, highlighting their critical role in job creation. We have seen the direct effects in consultation with the local community and job creation.
2. Economic Growth: Spending within the local economy creates a multiplier effect, where money spent locally is reinvested into the community. Studies show that for every R100 spent at a local business, R68 stays within the community, compared to R43 when spent at a non-local business.
3. Job Distribution: Our current job distribution clearly display the employment patterns created by local business. Our current employment stats include 130 staff with the following distribution:
4. Community Safety: Our community is very underserviced with crime prevention and policing. We have allocated a large portion of our budget to safety and ensure that the private security companies we employ are vigilant and respond to crime in the area so as to create an environment of safety and security for all our neighbours.
